AS Roma Academy has appointed former Golden Eaglets coach and Flying Eagles coach John Obuh as technical director.

AS Roma is a professional Italian soccer club based in Rome, founded in 1927. Since then, it has participated in the highest Italian football for all its existence, except for the 1951–52 season.

Roma won the Serie A title in 1941–42, 1982–83, and 2000-01, nine Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

The Italian club Academy expressed this in a statement on Monday in Ilorin by its country manager, Robinson Adakosa.

In European competition, Roma won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the 1960-61 Season and were runners-up in the 1983-84 European Cup and the 1990 – 1991 UEFA Cup.

Adakosa said the academy is excited to launch a new chapter with Obuh due to his vast experience.

“It is easy for us to choose Obuh among the many potential applicants because we believe he has the potential to pursue a vision of our academy.

“Children and other staff will have a lot to learn from him because we believe he has seen everything about football, not only in Nigeria but all over the world.

“We believe this new step is a bold move at the AS Roma Academy, Abuja, is here to source for young football talents,’’ Mr. Adakosa said.

Adakosa said AS Roma Academy, Abuja is now open for trials as well as enrollment into the academy.
Obuh, born in the Ohafia local government area of ​​Abia, has more than 20 years of coaching experience.

He was the coach of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria between 2010 and 2013.

He raised the Golden Eaglets to win the FIFA Fair Play Award at the 2009 U-17 World Cup, while Nigeria finished second behind Switzerland.

Obuh won the WAFU Club Championship of 2010 at Sharks FC of Port Harcourt.

The former Kwara United FC of Ilorin also plays for Akwa United FC of Uyo, Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna, the Enugu Rangers in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), among others.
