The boxer, who represented the Olympic Refuge Team at Middleweight, faced Dominican Republic’s Euri Cedeno at the start of his match but found himself lying on the ground a few seconds later.
He got up early to spare the number of coaches but minutes passed when another powerful jab from Cedeno caught up with him.
This made it a second cold.
The player wouldn’t let it seem like he was 24 years old well from his depth and gave Cedeno the fight.
Rodriguez did not want to leave the ring early after all his efforts to get there.
At the age of 18, he played for the Venezuelan national boxing team, but the lack of infrastructure following the economic crisis in the country made him quit.
Seeking better opportunities and greater stability, he fled Venezuela in 2018.
He took refuge in Trinidad and Tobago where he was invited to participate in boxing competitions.
The following year his father, who was also his manager, joined the Caribbean nation.
Rodriguez did a fantastic job of making a living but the love of boxing and the Olympic dream was always on his mind.
“There was never a day when I didn’t think about going to the Olympics when I didn’t think about boxing,” he told Olympics.com after being given the opportunity to compete in Tokyo as part of a refugee camp.
“When I was mixing cement, I thought about how that would help me in boxing. While mowing the lawn, I wondered how that would help me in boxing.
“When I paint a house, or whatever I do, every time I think of what I want to do,” she shares.
However, there were fears before making the trip to Japan.
He wanted to leave the government in Trinidad and Tobago so that he could not travel because of his refugee status.
But when his dream finally came true on Monday, it was only 67 seconds.
His appearance at the Olympics, though brief, left him wanting more.
“How was I at the Olympics? I don’t know yet, ”he said, trying to fight for emotional tears.
